There are several type of garden ponds that the home owner might enjoy to have in the home. Some man made ponds are elevated with a barrier that prevents the water from spilling over while others are dug into the earth and match with the structure of the land. A garden pond is commonly made as natural as possible which means that the whole pond may be dug into the ground. Some other water structures such as fountains and waterfalls may be added to the garden pool depending on the druthers of the home owner.

There are many places that a garden pool may be discouraged due to an over exposure to the sun or too closely knit to sizable tree roots. Aquatic floras are good to possess in a garden pool. These provide food, protection and air for the living things in the pond. Plants can also be located beside the pool in an effort to make the pool appear more natural and in going along with the scenery. There are many assorted species of underwater and semi aquatic plants that are good additions to the garden pond.
