The California Institute of Technology, affectionately called Caltech, is a private university that offers an intensive curriculum specializing in the natural sciences and engineering. Renown for their aeronautical advances in jet propulsion, Caltech, through its subsidiary Jet Propulsion Lab, works intimately with NASA. It is fair to character their relationship as such: when NASA wants to go to space, the JPL figures out how to get them there.

Caltech, despite is reputation, maintains a relatively small student body, with little more than two thousand students in both its graduate and undergraduate programs. From humble origins to world renown, Caltech began in 1891 as vocational school. It was not until the tenure of the astronomer George Hale that the university began to cultivate its reputation as a frontrunner in science and aeronautics. He convince other prominent scientists, among them physical chemist Arthur Amos Noyes and experimental physicist Robert Andrews Millikan (who would subsequently win the Nobel Prize for physics), to join the institution.

Arguably the most successful research institute on the west coast, as of 2008 Caltech claims thirty-one Nobel laureates as alumni or faculty. No more than 25,000 students have passed through its doors, which means the ratio of Nobel laureates to alumni is so small, no other university can compare. Other notable alumni who received Nobel prizes include Edward B. Lewis, Linus Pauling, Carl D. Anderson and William A. Fowler.

The emphasis is obviously quality over quantity. Various interdisciplinary programs have been started to give students a survey of inter-related fields of study. The academic workload at Caltech has been fairly distributed to ensure students are successful with their coursework. The grading system has been designed in such a manner as to allow students to know their academic standing as early in the semester as possible. This helps students put the necessary emphasis on their academic performance in subsequent exams.

Their closest rival for both government grants and international prestige is MIT. The two schools have developed an intense rivalry over the decades. As expected, this rivalry has vented itself by way of years and years of reciprocal pranks, which seem to invariably involve the respective school mascots. Regardless, these institutions are known worldwide as centers of exemplary academic research and supply the upper echelons of our scientific community.

HOW CIRQUE DE SOLIEL BECAME WHAT IT IS TODAY

Cirque de Soleil began 25 years ago, in 1984, and was created in order to feature the most superb entertainment acts of the time for what was hoped to be highly appreciative audiences. In 1959, Guy Laliberte, founder of Cirque de Soliel, was born in Quebec, where he developed his own talents as an accordion player, a fire eater, and a stilt walker as well. He obviously performed in many different settings, and even experienced performing in the street for some of his days.

It was Guy Laliberte’s vision to discover and work with other gifted performers who had similar backgrounds and his small group was soon delighting many audiences. Laliberte was the one who came up with the idea to define the Cirque de Soleil by blending cultures, music and acrobatics into well defined and distinctive routines. This unusual and successful combination created by Guy Laliberte soon had eager fans standing in long lines just to get Cirque de Soleil tickets. Today there are traveling troupes that perform in countries across the globe and some companies are contracted for longer engagements in major cities like Las Vegas.

Criminal Justice graduates enjoy access to an assortment of fields, including law enforcement, homeland security, and private investigation. The two skills they have developed include strategic thinking and problem solving, both of which are vital to successful careers in law enforcement. Furthermore, more and more corporations are recruiting Criminal Justice graduates in an effort to bolster their Human Resource divisions.

The effectiveness of the criminal justice system itself is predicated on the ability of individuals to thoroughly investigate crimes, rehabilitate inmates, and assist victims. Effective Criminal Justice programs should provide students with extensive instruction concerning the motives and methods of criminals. The best programs often include courses on dispute resolution, child abuse and neglect, the judicial system, gang culture, and criminal law.

Students have rounded out their knowledge base by successfully combining Criminal Justice degrees with coursework in anthropology, chemistry, and psychology. The combination of coursework in chemistry or biology in conjunction with a degree in Criminal Justice can lay the foundations for a successful career in forensics. To be sure, a degree in Criminal Justice is a common pre-law degree.

An advanced Criminal Justice degree should be obtained from an accredited university or distance learning program. Distance or correspondence programs often allow business professional to work towards a degree without compromising their employment. Indeed, the time restraints most professionals endure lend to the popularity of home-based programs.

Well-respected correspondence programs frequently provide a range of Criminal Justice degrees levels, including associate, bachelor, and masters degrees. In addition to the convenience these academies and universities provide, prospective students may be pleased by the reasonable pricing plans, which are often far more affordable than traditional universities.

Success does not necessarily mean a radical sea change. Instead, students would be better served by making a gradually, constant change by means of a flexible distance learning program. This plan should include an array of tools, including well-regarded textbooks, online tutorials, and skilled mentors. The future is bright for Criminal Justice graduates — success is always predicated on the investment of time.
